“A pastor’s life should be a picture of the life of Christ for the sheep in “God’s flock.” He should be an example of humility, self-sacrifice, love for God, passion in congregational worship, generosity, devotion to family, and, most of all, obedience to Jesus in all things. A pastor’s life is to match his message, a message he has learned to preach and live by studying the gospel and the life of Jesus Christ. So I ask: are you willing to pastor?”

Dr. Raymond Johnson, Senior Pastor of Christ Church West Chester, recently wrote an article for the latest 9Marks Church Matters Journal titled, “You Aspire, But Are You Willing?”. This article focuses on the standards for pastors in the local church according to 1 Peter 5:2-3 and the questions one should ask themselves before pursuing the calling to pastoral ministry.

Though this article is written particularly for men aspiring to pastoral ministry as the journal it’s included in is focused on seasons in a pastor’s life, both the article and the journal as a whole contain widespread application for any member of a local church.
