On Sunday, April 27, author and pastor of Sterling Park Baptist Church in Sterling Virginia, Mike McKinley, will lecture on the content of his book Friendship With God: A Path to Deeper Fellowship with the Father, Son, and the Spirit.

Based on the spiritual classic, Communion With God by John Owen, Friendship With God explores how believers are invited into and experience fellowship with the Divine Trinity. McKinley thoughtfully probes the reader to consider the astounding truth that through the finished work of Christ, all Christians are brought into unbelievable and unprecedented closeness with God, and that closeness is ultimately mediated by God’s own unfailing love for the believer. Further, McKinley writes boldly and powerfully, exalting the excellence and loveliness of the Trinity in such a way that not only captures Christian’s hearts to make them desire friendship with God, yet also encourages Christians to believe wholeheartedly that God delights in and desires communion with them.

Thoroughly Biblical, while also being intensely devotional, Friendship With God repackages all of Owen’s richly heart-warming insights in a much more accessible form without sacrificing any of the original’s theological acuity. McKinley helpfully shows that the doctrine of God, properly understood, serves as a rich wellspring for Christian devotion, as he explicates the unique way in which each divine person of the trinity relates to believers, and how the character and nature of God is the foundation of Christian faith, hope, and love. In our morning service of corporate worship at 10 AM, McKinley will preach on Matthew 9:9-13 and will give his lecture for Sunday Night Theology at 5 PM. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a time of Q&A. Childcare will be provided.

Mike McKinley received his Masters of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary, and has authored multiple books including: Am I Really a Christian?, Engagement: Preparing for Marriage, and Church Planting is for Wimps. He and his wife, Karen, have 5 children and live in Northern Virginia where Mike serves as a pastor at Sterling Park Baptist Church.
