On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 5PM, Isaac Whitney, Pastoral Assistant at Christ Church West Chester, will deliver a Sunday Night Theology lecture titled, “Imaging God: Herman Bavinck’s Doctrine of Humanity.”

One of the most pressing questions of our day has been on what it means to be human. In this lecture, Whitney will explore the 19th-20th century Dutch theologian’s theological anthropology to show that being made in God’s image is good news. A Q&A will follow the lecture.

Whitney’s work on Herman Bavinck’s understanding of human nature includes “The Body and the Image of God in Bavinck and the Reformed Orthodox,” published in the Scottish Journal of Theology in 2024, and “The Rebellious and Fractured Self: Revisiting Herman Bavinck’s Account of the Ethical Struggle in the Human Person,” which is set to be published in the Journal of Reformed Theology.

This lecture is free and open to the public at Christ Church West Chester. Childcare is provided. For future Sunday Night Theology lectures, click here.
