Christ Church West Chester invites you to join us on November 30 as we host Sean DeMars to preach in the morning and to return in the evening to teach at our Sunday Night Theology.

Sean currently serves as the Lead Pastor at Glory Community Church in Decatur, Alabama, where he lives with his wife Amber and their two daughters, Patience and Isabella. Sean was saved at 18, and after serving five years in the United States Military, served as a missionary in Peru. Having returned from the mission field in 2015, Sean has remained busy. Alongside his pastoral duties at Glory Community Church, he hosts the Room for Nuance podcast, and has authored multiple books, including Redemption Song; A Primer on Singing for the People of God, and Rebel to Your Will, which tells the story of his personal testimony. Sean has also written a bevy of articles for institutions such as 9Marks, and The Gospel Coalition.

Sean is a strong advocate against the Prosperity Gospel: the heretical teaching that promotes the belief that God will necessarily bless those who have true faith with health and wealth, but that wasn’t always the case. Sadly, as a young Christian of 19, Sean was beguiled by the prosperity gospel and promoted it, even to his own harm. By God’s grace however, Sean was exposed to faithful Christian teaching that condemned it for what it is, a wicked distortion of God’s word.

Since then, Sean has devoted himself to the true good news of Christ, writing the books; Health, Wealth, and the (Real) Gospel: The Prosperity Gospel Meets the Truth of Scripture with Mike McKinley, as well as Does the Gospel Promise Health and Prosperity? for the 9Marks Church Questions series. These books helpfully and clearly bring the word of God to bear on the “naming and claiming” promises of the prosperity gospel, and will form the conceptual basis for the content of his Sunday Night Theology lecture.

In the morning, Sean will preach from Romans 8, at our Sunday morning gathering, which will take place at 10 AM. In the evening, Sean will return to deliver his lecture, “Health, Wealth, and the (Real) Gospel: The Prosperity Gospel Meets the Truths of Scripture.” His lecture will not only endeavor to critically assess the prosperity gospel’s claims in light of the witness of scripture, but will also address regeneration and salvation for those who believe false doctrines, and how believers can counter beliefs resembling those taught by the prosperity gospel which may lie dormant in their own hearts.

This lecture will take place on Sunday, November 30, at 5 PM, at Christ Church West Chester. His lecture, which will be followed by at time of Q&A, is free and open to the public, and childcare will be provided. For a schedule of future lectures, click here.
