We live in an anti-authority age. Having experienced bad authority, many people today drift towards having no authority. What’s more, our culture even celebrates breaking away from authority in popular movies, books, and media. In part, it’s the American spirit of freedom that says “No one can tell me what to do.” The reality, however, is that we need authority. After all, what is a game without rules, or a school without standards. In the words of Jonathan Leeman, the solution to bad authority is not no authority, it is good authority. This begs the question then: What is authority and how should it be used?

On Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 5 PM, we have the privilege of welcoming Dr. Jonathan Leeman, President of 9Marks. He will give a lecture titled “Authority: How Godly Rule Protects, Strengthens, and Promotes Human Flourishing.” Following the lecture, there will be a brief Q&A. This event is free and open to all. Childcare is provided.

Additionally, Dr. Jonathan Leeman will preach Psalm 119 during CCWC’s 10 AM service of corporate worship.

Jonathan Leeman is the president of 9Marks.
