On Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 5 PM, Dr. Todd Stryd will give a lecture entitled, “Mental Health and the Local Church: Answering Four Important Questions.” How do we think about treating mental health and mental illness as Christians? This is a crucial question for us to answer, as statistics suggest that one in four people suffer from some kind of mental illness. Our answer relies on how we understand human nature as believers. Laying solid foundational perspectives on human nature will help us to separate the signal from the noise in the world around us. In this presentation, we will lay a basic foundation for our understanding of how to care for those with mental health challenges by answering four foundational questions: “How is reality structured?, What does it mean to be human?, What is biblical flourishing?, and “What’s the difference between Christians and non-Christians?”
Todd Stryd serves as a faculty member and Counseling Coordinator at the Christian Counseling Educational Foundation (CCEF) in Glenside, PA. His previous work has explored the relationship between a reformed Christian narrative and the experience of schizophrenia. He is the author of Schizophrenia: A Compassionate Approach.
