Blake Boylston, Lead Pastor at Chaffee Crossing Baptist Church in Barling, Arkansas, will be preaching and teaching at Christ Church West Chester on Sunday, June 29, 2025. In the morning, Boylston will join us for our 10AM corporate worship service and preach from 2 Timothy 4:9-22. In the evening, he will give the lecture, “Depression: Meeting the Depressed with the Grace of God through the Local Church.”

Depression affects millions of people. It’s symptoms vary: lethargy, hopelessness, despair, isolation. It’s causes can by myriad: biological or chemical imbalance, psychological trauma, or emotional despair. What does it mean for Christians to embrace the work and promises of Christ in the face of depression and to help their brothers and sisters do the same? Christians may come to different conclusions on whether it’s wise or unwise to take medicine for symptoms of depression, but Christians should be well-equipped through the Scriptures to know how to trust the Lord and reply upon His available mercies to persevere with hope through bouts or seasons of depression.

Blake Boylston’s lecture will endeavor to equip believers who struggle with depression with biblical, life-giving truth to help them cling to Christ. By leaning on Christ and the people he has given us to help us, we can find deep joy that persists in spite of depression through the power of the gospel. This talk aims to accomplish 2 overarching goals: (1) To remove the stigma of not talking about depression in the life of a true Christian (thus, being humble and honest about it); (2) To give church leaders and church members practical ways to compassionately and patiently help those who are walking through depression. A Q&A will follow the lecture.
