On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Christ Church West Chester has the privilege of hosting Matthew Foreman as a preacher and teacher. Foreman has been faithfully pastoring Faith Reformed Baptist Church in Media, Pennsylvania for over 20 years, is a member of the Philadelphia Pastor’s Collective, and has already been a blessing to CCWC in the capacity of teacher, having lectured to our interns on confessionalism and pastoral ministry.
Foreman will preach to our congregation in the morning from Isaiah 50, and in the evening, will return to give a lecture entitled, “The Angel of the Lord; Christ’s Presence in the Old Testament.”
In 2020, Foreman co-authored a book on the Angel of the Lord with Douglas Van Dorn, wherein the two weave together the insights of systematic theology, biblical theology, exegesis, and the understanding of faithful saints throughout history to present a case for the appearance of Christ in the Old Testament. Exploring the details of some of the texts in which the “Angel of the Lord” appears, as well as the testimony of church history, this lecture will clearly show that the Angel of the Lord is a manifestation of God the Son, that the Son was present and active throughout the Old Testament, and that he appears more often than people realize. “No one has ever seen God; the only God who is at the Father’s side has (always) made him known.” Foreman’s lecture will also endeavor to present a compelling case for the enduring relevance of the Old Testament by highlighting its organic connection to the New Testament through the person of Christ and show how these insights are useful for Christians today.
Originally from Atlanta, Foreman became a Christian through a campus ministry at Furman University, and later went on to complete his studies at Westminster Theological Seminary. He served as the organizing and founding Chairman of the Reformed Baptist Network, formerly chaired the RBNet Missions Committee, and lectures on Practical Theology at the Reformed Baptist Seminary. He was called to serve as a pastor at Faith Reformed Baptist Church in Media in 2002, where he now lives with his family.
This lecture will take place on Sunday, July 27, at 5 PM, at Christ Church West Chester. The lecture is free and open to the public, and childcare will be provided. For a schedule of future lectures, click here.
